SIDeF has established a Geographic Information System (GIS) unit to provide the services in the field of preparation, digitisation, analysis and interpretation of maps and is planned to establish the GPS (Global Positioning System) based survey unit. SIDeF has completed the digitization of 3 layers (land use, land system and land capability) of 20 PDDP districts. Work was assigned by PDDP/NPC. SIDeF prepared the digital database of both biophysical and socioeconomic layer of selected pocket area of 10 VDCs (watershed and influence area of Melamchi Project) of Sindupalchowk district. Work was assigned by Melamchi Diversion Scheme Environmental Impact Assessment (MDSEIA/IUCN). GIS Division of SIDeF has completed the digitization of data of eight LGP districts for LGP/UNDP.
Recently, GIS Division of SIDeF has just completed the updating of DTMP of Baglung, Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and Gorkha districts.
1. Development of digital data of 20 PDDP districts and interpretation of various mapping units of three data layers, viz. Land Use, Land Capability and Land System assigned by PDDP/NPC in 1999. Digital data is now on sale in National Planning Commission.
2. Preparation of the digital database of both biophysical and socio economic layer of selected pocket area of 10 VDCs of Sindhupalchowk district, assigned by Melamchi Diversion Scheme Environmental Impact Assessment (MDSEIA/IUCN) in 1999.
3. Preparation of 14 layers of biophysical data of 8 LGP districts assigned by LGP/UNDP in 2000.
4. Preparation of various GIS maps as required for other SIDeF activities e.g. GIS maps for District Transport Master Plan of Sankhuwasabha District assigned by RDP/GTZ and Dailekh District assigned by HELVETAS Nepal
5. GIS Data entry of Kathmandu valley urban road network from Department of Housing and Physical Planning completed in 2001.
6. Digitization of biophysical data of Gulmi district for GARDP-II May 2002 to July 2002.
7. Digitization DTMP maps of Arghakhanchi for GARDP-II January 2002 to May 2002.
8. Preparation / Updating of District Transport Master Plan (DTMP)/ District transport perspective plan (DTPP) of Solukhumbu, Gorkha, Baglung districts under DDC/DRILP/ DOLIDAR June 2006 – Sep 2007.
